We had a total of eight Dallastown Area High School (DAHS) students apply for the 2025 Daren M Hidalgo Scholarship. The memorial scholarship committee decided to award a scholarship to both Jocelyn Markel and Allison Yeich. Jocelyn Markel played on the Girls Varsity Volleyball throughout high school. She led the Volleyball team to back-to-back Division Championships over the past two years. She has been heavily involved with the Dallastown Mini-Thon and was the biggest fundraiser in her class. Jocelyn was selected by her peers to be President of the Dallastown Unified Club. She was on the Student Council all four years and was a student guide for incoming freshmen and new students. Jocelyn excelled academically as demonstrated by attaining the Distinguished Honor Roll all four years. She enjoyed being a Teaching Assistant and helping others learn while developing caring and meaningful relationships. She will be attending Penn State University to pursue a degree in education so that she can become a teacher.
Allison was a member of the Orchestra Chamber where she played the violin and was the String Ensemble section leader. She also plays the piano and performed at numerous churches during holiday concerts. Allison was elected by her peers as DAHS class Treasurer all four years. She enjoys figure skating and recently competed at the Junior Excel Level. She excelled academically as demonstrated by attaining the Distinguished Honor Roll every year. Allison volunteered to be a Horizons Student Teacher Volunteer to mentor underprivileged inner city elementary school children with academic learning during the summer. Allision has also served as a Special Olympics Figure Skating Coach for the past five years. She will be attending Penn State University to pursue a major in Health Policy Administration to help improve the efficiency of our healthcare system.
